A place for wild life enthusiast and and photographer’s dream Ranthombore is an exotic place in the state Rajasthan. It is located in the hilly terrain of Ran and Thambor two hills at the range of Aravalli and Vindhya. Ranthambhor is best known for its old crumbling walls ruined pavilions wells and other ancient structure which tell the story of glorious past. The majestic Ranthombore fort is one of the oldest forts in India.
Tigers and Ranthambhore are inseparable. The Park sprawls over an estimated area of 400 sq kms. Ranthambore is famous for its tiger population. In 80s it was well known for tiger sightings. But over the last two decades the appeal of Ranthambhore has extended beyond its tiger; now it is as much as like a luxury retreat where you can appreciate nature and can spot other families of cat families.
The history of Ranthambhore goes back almost a thousand years when the Chauhan Kings started to build the Ranthambore fort.The fort bears both Rajput and Mughal influence the thousand years old fort is spotted with ancient temples baoris chhatris yagyashala and haunting pavillions.
Cuddled in Aravalli hills Ranthambore becomes more charming because of the old fort that lies within the park. There are water falls lakes and lush green gives tourists a panoramic view.
Ranthambhore is a must visited place infact favourite haunt of wild life lovers and wildlife photography buffs. Tourists around the world come to explore this national park to see tigers panther wild cats hyena jackal marsh crocodile wild boar bears many species of deer and a rich birdlife of over 300 species including the great Indian horned owl. Although the population of tiger is declining in Ranthambhore but still tigers are visible almost daily leopard once a week and sloth bears around once in a month. Langurs sambar cheetal neelgai mongoose testify that they are omnipresent. Aquatic birds can also be seen in Ranthambhore as there are three lakes Raj Bagh Malik Talab and Padam Talab which are best place to spots birds.
Note : Ranthambore is just 145 km from Jaipur and easily accessible from Delhi and nearest airport is Kota and Jaipur. Entry to the park is limited and have to obtain a permit.
